Friday, September 6th - Practices
The weekend of the San Marino Grand Prix begins under a clear sky with free practice sessions. In this first session, the goal is to test the feeling with the bike, the track layout, and grip: from the start, the worn-out asphalt proves challenging due to bumps. David officially debuts on this track with some interesting lap times, both when riding alone and in groups. Matteo starts off well, setting fast times while riding solo and using the free practice to fine-tune the bike’s setup ahead of P1.
In the afternoon, both riders continued their work, further improving their feel with the bike. Matteo managed to secure a spot in the Top 10 and provisional entry to Q2 with the 7th fastest time. David, further behind, just missed the checkered flag by a few seconds, unable to complete a final lap that could have improved his time.
Saturday, September 7th - Practices and Qualifying
Practice 2 showed great promise, with the track conditions allowing riders to go under the lap record as early as Friday. Matteo Bertelle immediately demonstrated strong speed, holding third position for most of the session and finishing with a time that secured him direct entry to Q2. David Almansa also improved significantly compared to Friday, remaining in Q1 but setting a much more competitive time and position, raising expectations for qualifying.
In the hottest part of the weekend, the riders returned to the track for qualifying. David took to the track in Q1, riding solo without seeking a tow, and showed good speed. However, he narrowly missed out on advancing to Q2, finishing just outside the top four positions.
Q2 saw Matteo as the main focus for the team. His first run lasted only one lap, forcing him to rely on his second attempt. In the end, he finished 16th, despite posting a personal best in the final sector, leaving some hope for a better result.
Sunday, September 8th - Race
The race kicked off with a blazing start from both riders. After skillfully avoiding a crash in the first corner, they quickly positioned themselves among the frontrunners and maintained a strong pace from the opening laps. Taking advantage of other riders' mistakes and the capabilities of their bikes, they steadily climbed up the rankings, entering the top ten. By mid-race, the field began to spread out, and Matteo held onto 10th place, battling to catch the leading group of five.
David remained slightly behind, staying around 12th position while engaged in a close battle with another rider.
Unfortunately, with four laps to go, Matteo slid out while attempting to close in on the leading pack. David, however, managed to finish the race, securing his best result of the season by crossing the line in 11th place.
Riders Comments
Matteo's disappointment after the race is evident, but he remains motivated for Race 2 at Misano: “I'm really disappointed because I was very fast and felt good. But I'm more than ready to tackle the next race here, knowing I can fight for strong positions.”
David, on the other hand, achieved his best result of the season: “The race went well. I felt great on the bike and found good speed, managing to keep a strong pace. I struggled with the heat, but it didn’t affect my performance. Now, we eagerly await Misano 2, and we’re coming in ready to do well.”
