We are now on the verge of the new motorcycle season, and the riders are beginning to rev up the engines of their trusted two-wheelers during this weekend of testing in Portugal. The Portimao track witnessed two intense days of pre-season testing for the Moto3 category.
Thursday, February 22nd
A great start for the Team Snipers riders: in the first session, David Almansa was the first rider to break the 1.50 barrier with a time of 1:49.959. Matteo Bertelle closely followed, showing significant improvement on the 12th lap with 1:49.723. At the end, Almansa placed 5th, while Bertelle took the 8th position.
The second session was marked by rain, reducing the number of riders on the track and forcing both Almansa and Bertelle to remain in the pits.
In the third session, both riders showed their worth. Almansa demonstrated remarkable progression, rising to 4th place after starting 16th, while Bertelle solidified his position in 6th place. Both ended the session with competitive times.
In the fourth session, wet conditions prevented all riders from participating.
Friday, February 23rd
The second day of Moto3 pre-season testing at Portimao saw David Almansa and Matteo Bertelle face challenges and moments of triumph on the Portuguese circuit.
In the first session on Friday, Almansa and Bertelle took to the track in wet conditions. Despite the difficulties, both riders showed remarkable harmony with the bike and confidence in their abilities even in the wet: Almansa took the lead on his 16th lap, but was later surpassed by Bertelle, who claimed the first position. As the track dried up, all riders saw an improvement in lap times. At the end of the session, Almansa finished 11th and Bertelle 13th without attempting a fast lap again.
The second session, on the other hand, took place on a dry track, with both riders once again facing the challenge with determination. Almansa showed improvement in his time, while Bertelle continued to demonstrate his consistency in race simulations. Both riders completed the session until the checkered flag was waved on the track.
In the third session, Almansa and Bertelle again showcased their skills, posting competitive lap times. However, the session was interrupted by rain, preventing the riders from completing the third run with further fast laps.
In the fourth session, Bertelle was the only rider to take part, setting a valid time despite a crash in sector 3 with no consequences.
Conclusions
At the conclusion of these two days of testing, the assessment for Team Snipers is more than positive, with excellent results despite the weather affecting performance on the track.
Matteo's words at the end of the second day: "The tests went quite well, I was able to try out the 2024 package little due to the rain and weather. Now I'm excited for the next 3 days of testing at Jerez."
